Finding Forever: Our Adoption Process 🐾

We are so excited that you’re looking to open your heart to a pug! As a small volunteer team, we have designed this process to ensure every pug receives the time, care, and attention they deserve.

Beyond the Basics: Our Commitment to Health

When a pug enters our rescue, we do so much more than vaccinations. We provide comprehensive rehabilitation, including:

  • Medical Care: Dentals, bloodwork, heartworm treatment, and eye care.
  • Wellness: Skin and ear infection treatment, flea prevention, and strict weight loss programs.
  • Development: Daily exercise, socialization, and confidence building.

Please Note: We are not a "flip" rescue. We do not rush placements to move dogs quickly. We wait for the perfect family, and we will not adopt out a pug until they are healthy and at an ideal weight.

Steps to Adopt

Step 1: Follow Us for Adoption Alerts

We do NOT keep a general adoption application open. To find your new best friend, follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We do NOT feature available rescues on our website. Because our “Open Adoption” windows are specific and brief, social media is the only way to see our current rescues. We will make a dedicated post when a specific pug is ready, and applications will open only for that pug. Please read the requirements in the rescue’s bio before proceeding, as featured on our Facebook page.

Step 2: Application & Donation

If you feel you are the right match for a specific pug:

  • Submit a $20 non-refundable Application Donation
  • Once received, we will email you the formal adoption application link.
  • Have your veterinary records ready, as you must attach them at the end of the application.

Step 3: Vet Records — The “Big Three”

To be eligible, you must provide veterinary records covering the last 3 years of care for all current or past pets. This is non-negotiable. Your records must provide clear, documented proof of:

  • Yearly Physical Exams
  • Up-to-Date Vaccinations
  • Consistent Monthly Heartworm Preventative

Strict Denial Policy: Heartworm prevention must be consistent and year-round. Records showing “seasonal” use or inconsistent purchase history will result in an automatic denial. If any of the “Big Three” are missing, your application will be denied. Because we are volunteers with jobs and families, we will not go back and forth regarding missing information or corrections.

Step 4: Video House Check

If your application and vet records pass review, you will receive an email requesting a video walk-through of your home. This helps us ensure your environment is safe and well-suited for that specific pug’s needs.

Step 5: Choosing the Best Match

We are NOT first-come, first-served. We choose the family that is the best fit for the pug’s personality, medical needs, and energy level. If you are approved but not selected, we can keep your application on file for 6 months for future rescues.

Why are we so picky?

We invest our hearts, our time, and our funds into these amazing rescues. We are their voice until they find you, and we take that responsibility seriously. These pugs deserve forever, not just "fast." Thank you for respecting our process and helping us give these pugs the second chance they deserve. 🐾

⚠️ Strict Denial Policy

Because our team is composed entirely of volunteers, we do not have the capacity to manage missing information. Please be aware of the following:

  • No "Back and Forth": If any of the "Big Three" requirements are missing from your submitted records, your application will be automatically denied. We will not contact you to request missing records or corrections.
  • Heartworm Consistency is Key: Providing prevention "here and there" or "seasonally" is not sufficient. Records must show consistent, monthly administration for the past 3 years.
  • The Bare Minimum: These requirements represent the baseline level of care we expect for our rescues. If you cannot provide proof of this care for your current or past pets, we are unable to move forward with your application.

Pro-Tip for Applicants: Before hitting submit, double-check that your attachments clearly show the dates for all exams, vaccines, and every monthly heartworm purchase/dose for the last 3 years.

Why we are this firm:

We must be 100% certain that they are going to homes where their medical needs will be a top priority for the rest of their lives. Thank you for respecting our volunteers' time and our pugs' futures.
